Zwitserland 1

In Zwitserland waren we enige dagen in het plaatsje Meiringen. Dit ligt ca. 70 km ten zuidoosten van Bern. Meiringen is bekend om twee dingen. De schrijver van Sherlock Holmes, Conan Doyle, heeft hier enige tijd verbleven. Hij heeft Sherlock Holmes in deze plaats aan zijn einde laten komen. Tevens is Meiringen het stadje waar de lekkernij (voor sommigen) meringue is 'uitgevonden'.
In Switzerland we stayed for a few days in the little city of Meiringen, about 70 kms southeast of the capital city Bern.
Meiringen is well known for two facts. The author of Sherlock Holmes, Conan Doyle, stayed here for a while. He let Sherlock Holmes die in Meiringen. Meiringen is also the place where the meringue is 'invented'. Meringue is a kind of sweet treat.


	Meiringen heeft ca. 5000 inwoners. Het ligt op een hoogte van 600 m. Meiringen has about 5000 inhabitants and is situated at a heighth of 600 m. Links het Parkhotel du Sauvage, waar we overnachtten. We stayed in the Parkhotel du Sauvage.

De omgeving van Meiringen is prachtig. Around Meiringen the scenery is wonderful.

Met een kabeltram kun je naar de Reichenbachfall. Bij deze waterval heeft Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes aan zijn einde laten komen. By cabletram you can go to the Reichenbachfall. At this falls Conan Doyles let Sherlock Holmes die.

	Per kabelbaan hoog de bergen in. Onderweg hoor je het geklingel van de koeienbellen. Het uitzicht is prachtig. By skytram to the top of the mountains. You can hear the sound of the cows with their bells. The scenery is beautiful.
