De Etna is de grootste nog actieve vulkaan in Europa. Gemiddeld zijn er drie uitbarstingen per jaar. Bovendien is het de hoogste berg op Sicilië, 3000 m.
Mount Etna is the biggest still active volcano in Europe. There are about three eruptions a year. It is also the highest mountain in Sicily, 3000 meters.
 

Met een kabelbaan kun je tot 1800 meter hoogte komen.
By cabletram you can go as high as 1800 meters.

Daarna kun je per jeep nog hoger komen. Door de   
grote hoogte is het hier ook aanmerkelijk koeler.  

Then you can go even higher by jeep. Because of the  
height it is much cooler here.

Op Sicilië vind je nog tal van overblijfselen van de Griekse overheersing. Bij Agrigento aan de zuidkust is een heel dal vol met Griekse tempels.
In Sicily there are many remains of the Greek period. At Agrigento, on the south coast, there is a valley full of Greek temples.

      De Concordia-tempel (links) en de Hera-tempel (rechts) stammen beide uit de vijfde eeuw voor Christus.
